What is MELANOMA?

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that is mainly caused by UV light.

What is the UV index?

Ranging from 0 (low) to 11+ (extreme), the UV index tells us how strong the solar UV radiation is that day, and helps you work out how much sun protection you need. It includes factors like the sun’s position, ozone layer thickness, cloud cover, and elevation.

When are you most in danger?

You are most at danger between mid-May and mid-October between 11am-3pm.

How can I protect myself?

1. Slip on sun protective clothing

2. Slop on SPF50 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen

3. Slap on a broad-brimmed hat

4. Seek shade

5. Slide on some sunglasses
